The hypocrisy

Mark Twain once said “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”

What percentage of people do you think come into the world and finally die, without ever realising their why? Well, I’m not too experienced in life. I’m almost 25 years old, have had my fair share of ups and downs but of course, compared to those who have survived much longer than I have, mine probably aren’t worth much. However, from the little I have seen I do reckon that most people that come into this world do not ever realise their why.

I have met a staggering amount of people who don’t read much, who don’t ponder about why things happen or how things happen and go about life doing the next thing they think anyone else would have done. I don’t necessarily claim myself to be too different. But unfortunately or fortunately I find myself the odd one out in many situations in life. And I do read a lot and ponder, maybe even much more than I should.

It baffles me how most people really do go through life without ever trying to understand what is truly important to them, and thereby never pursuing them. However, come the slightest indication of death upon themselves or even someone closer to them, then comes the panic. What is it that stops anyone from understanding that life is fickle whether we like it or not? Just like people think they can control everything else that goes on in their life, they also try to control when sickness and death comes into their lives.

I’ve listened to a lot of people who’ve been deemed to be successful in life. I do not necessarily believe in good luck to get me to where I want to go. I believe in hard work in the right place at the right time. So, I research on people who’ve been where I want to be at and who’ve done what I want to do. I’ve been pleasantly surprised to see how un-manoeuvred most of the paths of many successful people have been. While they may have had an idea of where they’ve wanted to be one day and they’ve definitely worked hard, they have had very little control of the opportunities that have come their way. They just managed to make the best of them.

So, it truly does baffle me when I see people who try to control the extremely uncontrollable. What we are in control is of our reactions to what happens to us in life. We are not in control of the people we’ll meet, the accidents we will face or the day we will die. We are only in control of this moment right now and what we decide to do with it. With whom we decide to spend our time with and how we will make sure it counts. So, without any doubt, that clearly is the only thing we should focus on controlling. Which is why when I see people that have completely let go of what they actually have control of and instead try really very hard, to control all these things they cannot, the only thing that comes to my mind is “Oh, the hypocrisy”.
